VR Animation – The Future of Story-Telling, Film, and Entertainment

You might have noticed that VR animation has been pushed to the forefront of mainstream news recently. This is not without any merit.

VR has the potential to revolutionize the way that people view content. How can it do this? Let’s find out.

VR Animation Offers a New Style of Story-Telling:

Perhaps the biggest benefit of VR animation is the ability to tell stories in a new and unique way. Previously, the relationship between the viewer and the media was a set one. The media would play while the user watched along.

VR animation changes all that. By harnessing the power and interactivity of virtual reality, users can interact with the media they’re watching at any point, or at plot-specific moments in the story.

Not only does this completely immerse the user in what they’re watching, but it also offers them a whole new way of interacting with the content. In short, VR animation allows viewers to live the stories rather than just watch them.

It Evokes Strong Emotions:

On the topic of immersion, it’s challenging to get viewers to emotionally invest in your content if they’re constantly distracted by something else. VR animation doesn’t just keep their attention on your content, it thoroughly immerses them in the experience.

As a result, viewers are more likely to exhibit stronger emotional reactions to what they’re watching. Deviating from the topic a bit, let’s take the example of Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil 7 is a horror game developed by Capcom. There are two ways of playing this game; the regular way, or with a VR headset. The base game on its own is a scary experience, but the immersion that VR brings takes it to a whole new level.

Increased Personalization:

One of the downsides to traditional media is that multiple viewers experience the same content. Of course, not everyone has the same reaction to said content. Race, family background and other factors play a part in what viewers feel when they watch something. However, for the most part, the viewing experience is the same.

VR animation allows viewers to take part in what they’re watching. Content creators can design points in their content where the viewer’s choice can impact where the story goes from there. This boosts interactivity and gives the viewer a sense of control; like the story is theirs.

Conclusion:

There’s a long way to go before VR animation eclipses traditional media, or supplements it at the very least.

However, with the benefits that it offers, it’s almost inevitable that content creators will start to develop content around its use.
